I seem to be reading a lot of sweet, charming, quirky books lately and this was another one. This was really good! The book is set some time in the future (not clear when) during a time when androids are doing the work of many people including household work. The book is tender and warm, not scifi/futuristic at all despite being set in the future. Ben and Amy find an old fashioned robot in their garden one morning. Their marriage is splitting up and Amy is not a fan of the robot "Tang". But Ben wants to fix him and they go on a trip around the world chasing down his maker to find a way to fix him. Along the way they fall in love. Tang is very child like and Ben learns he can be a parent. The point of the book - Tang is special and can feel emotions (unlike most of the droids who are just machines). So there are many emotions and relationships and feelings. Several parts are really funny. Others just sweet and endearing. Happy ending for everyone and by the end Amy falls in love with him too. And gets back together with Ben. Very human heartfelt story with lots of telling commentary on humans vs artificial intelligence.
