ISBN 037309700x - You know the standard formula. This strays a little, but not much. Reading it reminded me strongly of "And Father Makes Three" (Premiere) (Silhouette Special Edition, No 990) (Paperback) by Laurie Campbell ISBN-10: 0373099908, with the son he never knew he had being raised by a woman he eventually falls in love with.

Fifteen years ago, multimillionaire Ty had an short relationship with Julia. Julia had his child and gave him up for adoption, but never told Ty about him, until now. Nathan's adoptive father died recently and Julia just wants Ty to make sure the boy is okay. Not even sure that the boy is his, Ty sets out to find out - and if he IS his child, he plans to do everything in his considerable power to claim him. Knowing how women have reacted to his wealth all of his life, he's sure he can find the adoptive mother's price. If all else fails, he can always marry her.

Rachel married Richard because she loved his son. Richard was older and looking for a mother for Nathan. After eight years of a relatively loveless, entirely passionless marriage, Richard died, leaving Rachel to raise Nathan alone. Money troubles are really the least of her problems, as Nathan begins to act out after his father's death. When Ty enters their lives, Nathan immediately dislikes him but Rachel starts to fall - until she discovers that Nathan is his biological son and she begins to suspect that she's been used.

I found a few things odd - in 1991, father's had rights and Ty had a lawyer in his closest friend. It would have been perfectly reasonable, if not a good romance story, if he had simply used his money and power to fight for his son, since he never signed away his parental rights. Two, the fact that Julia is mentioned and even contacted by Ty leaves me wondering why her relationship to Nathan was never discussed, with Nathan OR Rachel. And last, considering his late father's involvement in hiding Nathan's existence from Ty, it seems a little strange that Ty doesn't seem to have much stronger feelings about him. Still, not bad, just average.
