This Princess was born on the 10th of June, 1711, and accompanied her mother and sisters to England on the accession of her grandfather George I. It was Caroline of Anspach who had the courage to adopt the new fashion of inoculating for the small-pox in the case of her own children. The beneficial effects of this practice had been remarked by Lady Mary Wortley Montagu when staying in Constantinople; and, in consequence of her report, Dr. Mead was ordered by their Majesties to inoculate six criminals under sentence of death, but whose lives were spared for this experiment.
