Fascinating book! The history of the British Navy from its beginning in 1568, both good and bad. The history of the world is viewed from its impact on the British Navy, and the navy's impact on major events. For example, the French and Indian war in the American colonies is a small part of a major, long-running conflict with France, and it's the navy that helped the British infantry win the day. In fact, the British soldiers, Mr. Herman says, were not the best in the world; it was only the navy's skill at getting them and their needed supplies to the critical places that won the major battles!

I can hardly wait to read Mr. Herman's viewpoint on the Scots.
