Three stars because at least one of the characters was infuriating making it very difficult to want to keep reading.

Four stars because the author is a talented writer. Dialogue is sparse and scenery is depicted very well, and reminds me of Charles Frazier's writing style.

The last fourth of the book poses several moral and philosophical dilemmas that would make for an interesting discussion if you could get a group of readers to commit to reading the entire book.

The author uses such beautiful language in this book, that sometimes you can now what's happening but not be shocked. A good story, a great story
