Sandra Shevey is an American writer, interviewer and Author. She is currently a BFI Associate Tutor and CEO of The Alfred Hitchcock Walk and The London Street Markets Walk.
Sandra Shevey was born at Sutton Place in New York City. Her father owned the building at the time. She grew up in Queens and Yonkers. Sandra moved to England in the 80's and became a Permanent British Resident in 1984.
Sandra Shevey begin to interview for fan magazines and is now well known as being a celebrity interviewer. She has released a CD titled `Ten of the Best`, it includes soundbites of interviews with Alfred Hitchcock, John Lennon, Jack Lemmon, Candice Bergen, Ray Bradbury, Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Jane Russell, Phil Silvers and others.
Sandra may be best known for her Marilyn Monroe autobiography. Commissioned by actual friends of Monroe, Sandra Shevey has written the only authorized autobiograhy about the late star.
Sandra interviewed Alfred Hitchcock in 1972. The interview was seen as too bold for it's time and thus never printed. However the information given to Sandra in the interview sparked her passion for the celebrity and she began official walks in London (The Alfred Hitchcock Walk) around Hitchock's film locations in 1999. Sandra plays excerpts from the interview with Hitchcock as part of the walk. She also started the Alfred Hithcock New York City Locations Walk in 2001.
Sandra Shevey has taken a big interest in film and even put out her own DVD. `London`s Ancient Markets: Their Fight for Survival`, profiles of 4 ancient London markets under threat- Smithfield, Spitalfield, Borough and Covent Garden. The entire film was conceived, written, narrated, directed and produced by Sandra Shevey in 2007.
