The setting and technology are well developed and believable (genetic engineering and cybernetics work happening on autonomous islands acreted from seawater), but not engaging enough to compensate for lackluster characters who are hard to sympathize with. In short: a decent read, but definitely not the authors' best work.

No dust jacket on my copy but this book is a great fast paced read with many ideas that face mankind in the near future
