Constable, 1907. This edition contains circa 1500 illustrations of Ancient Egyptian Scarabs. The volume contains drawings and descriptions of all the scarab-shapped seals, and scarabs bearing historical inscriptions, in the Cairo Museum. The collection, numbering over 1500 specimens, is a representative one, and contains examples of all periods from the end of the Sixth Dynasty to the time of the last native Egyptian ruler, Nectanebo. In Twelfth dynasty specimens it is especially rich, those from Dahchour being the finest examples of the period to be found in any museum in the world. Newberry has carefully noted the length, width and height of each specimen, and given a description of the inscription or device on the base, together with the remarks on the glaze, technique and preservation. The material is always noted, and the date, wherever it has been possible to fix if from a stuffy of dated examples in other museums.
