One of my all time favorite books. A hilarious novel set in southern Italy near the end of WWII. As one related to people from this region, I can say the characters of the peasants are drawn very true to life.
The movie made from this book was very inferior to the novel.
Extremely well-written. Plenty of surprises. holds your interest throughout.

This is a fabulous book about Italian peasants up against the Nazis. I married into an Italian peasant family and I know these people! One of my all time favorite books.
