This was an interesting twist on a classic coming of age story, where a young girl must chose between family or adventure. Very mild romance throughout the story.

LOTS of violence. I was surprised at how violent and upsetting some scenes were, especially for a Young Adult book! Murder, self-mutilation, bullying - pretty heavy stuff for an otherwise light book.
