Kept my interest throughout the book - page 300 is when it really picked up and I had a hard time putting it down at that point.

I enjoyed this book but it is very difficult to read...very wordy. It's a murder mystery, a ghost story, a family saga, a paranormal novel, a romance, and a coming-of-age tale all rolled into one.
This is a story of past and present converging to reveal unjust happenings that need to be resolved so the dead can rest.
2007 - Meredith is searching for her lost ancesters in the south of France. She meets Hal Lawrence at her hotel and falls in love. Together they uncover and puts to rest a great conspiracy involving her ancesters.
1891 - Anatole Vernier has stolen Victor Constant's girlfriend and Victor will go to any lengths to see that they both pay for their audacity. Thus begins a reign of terror, humilitation and murder against Anatole and everyone he loves including his sister, Leonie.
Unfortunately I had to force myself to continue reading this book by simply reading 100 pages at a time - that was all I could stand in one sitting. I'm actually glad that I completed it as it is a very good story. IMHO it is a tale that could have been told in fewer pages

Kate Mosse is a very gifted writer. She weaves the past and the present in a titillating thriller that makes you want to stay up until 3 pm because she you just can't wait to see what comes next. Kate definitely keeps you guessing.

Didn't know this author until my son got me labryth for Christmas, really like these two books and have now put this author on my reading list.

This book has to deal with tarot cards. Very mysterious.
I was a bit disappointed with this one because I loved her last book. I did finish it, it was just a bit longer than I thought it could've been. Still, if you like the south of France, this might be the book for you! Great characters, however. She's really good at building the reader's interest in her characters.

An easy read which keeps your attention. She made a smooth transition between past and present.
At more than 500 pages, it's not a quick read, but it's great for people who enjoyed "The Historian" by Kostova and/or "Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell." It's also heavy on the atmosphere and isn't your typical "fun summer read." But I had never before come across a book that combines historical setting and detail with a tarot-centered plot -- and just for grins, an alternate view of Rennes-les-Chateau and Sauniere and all the Templar hooha is thrown in as well.
In short, I'm not keeping it to read again, but I liked what it offered and don't feel it wasted my time.

I am still in the process of reading this book , so far I'm enjoying the story and like the duel time line , the one thing I don't care for is all the French phrases ,many have no English to let those of us who speak no French to know what is being said , and one can only try and quess
Partially set in the late 19th century and part in the early 21st, this is centered around southern French town. Two women in parallel are looking for the same thing. There are some really scary villains, both human and supernatural. The male characters are not written as strongly as the female ones which the only disappointing aspect about the book. But a really good read.
