Sex, Death, Swastikas: Nazi Exploitation SSinema (Persistence of Vision)
Sex Death Swastikas Nazi Exploitation SSinema - Persistence of Vision Author:Jack Hunter Nazi exploitation cinema originated in America in the years of World War 2, starting with sensationalistic anti-Hitler films such as Hitler: The Beast Of Berlin (1939). When the war ended, the genre shifted into the realm of atrocity, with documentary films like Kroger Babb's Halfway To Hell (1953), showing grisly footage from the liberation of ... more »the concentration camps, and also the real execution of Nazi war criminals. Nazi sexploitation cinema came into being in the 1960s, when sleaze film-makers Bob Cresse and Lee Frost created the legendary Love Camp 7 (1969). This was a fusion of the fictionalised anti-Nazi film with recreated elements of the atrocity film, focusing mostly on torture and sexual depravity in a concentration camp setting - the basic formula for a whole sub-genre of outrageous cinema which would also include Ilsa, She-Wolf Of The SS, and reach its peak in 1970s Italy with films like Nazi Love Camp 27 and SS Extermination Camp. SEX, DEATH, SWASTIKAS boldly investigates this controversial film sub-genre, tracing its entire origin and evolution, and features a comprehensive illustrated filmography. The book also contains a highly instructive appendix tracing the parallel rise of Nazi exploitation and sexploitation in war atrocity books, pulp fiction, porn paperbacks and men's magazines, up to and including Nazi sex websites of the late 20th century. It will be the first book dedicated to an area of cinema and culture which many would prefer to ignore, but which remains indelibly etched, like a concentration camp tattoo, on the hidden art-history of the 20th century.« less
