A magical summons draws a destitute Sarah Cunningham from her own world into an alternate Earth where she becomes Lady Sarah, Marchioness of Roxbury, and finds herself caught in the midst of a deadly web of intrigue and unexpected romance. Coauthors Norton and Edghill combine their considerable expertise and skill to create a light-hearted excursion into romantic fantasy, featuring a heroine determined to transform herself from unwitting pawn into active player in the games of politics, love, and magic. With strong appeal for fans of alternate historical fantasy and Regency romances, this title belongs in most fantasy collections.

An entertaining 'alternate history' fantasy set in Regency England. A lonely orphan is drawn back through time and space to assume the identity of the dying Marchioness of Roxbury, marry the Duke of Wessex, and save a captive princess. A dashing adventure full of intrigue, duels, and romance, very much like "The Scarlet Pimpernel". An enjoyable read, with admirable female characters, but nothing profound, and rather weak prose (though with the action so thick and fast, you won't even notice).

By Andre Norton and Rosemary Edghill, though I suspect Edghill wrote most of it - it's not very stylistically Norton). Alternate-history adventure-romance with magic & lots of intrigue - fun stuff.

I'm a big fan of Rosemary Edghill, but not of alternate history. If you're up on Napoleonic history and/or regency romance, you may enjoy spotting the deviations from the "real" timeline.
