This is Book 4 of the Bright Empires series.
Having settled comfortably into the style and pace of the series, I found this book to be another strong installment and well worth reading. Lawhead continues to reveal interesting plot elements and to promote realistic character development as he places each person in uniquely challenging times (quite literally) and situations.
This book was the most open-ended of the entire series, as it left some pretty significant issues dangling unresolved. There was also a very interesting twist at the end that provided a solid reason for the dire state of the cosmos, yet the full explanation is apparently being saved for the next book.
In all, this book served to tie all of the other books together quite nicely. All of the loose threads are finally converging, and I look forward to seeing how Lawhead decides to tie the bow. It has been a fun read so far and I am looking forward to seeing how it ends.
