I enjoyed this delightful novel, which tells the story of the end of the Israelite captivity in Egypt, their flight from Egypt, and the first months of their journey to the Promised Land. It gives me a new perspective on an old, old story.
I love the characters, who became such real people to me, as I read the book. It is wonderful to see so many of them grow in their walk with God, and to see how their individual faith walks are so different. In the Shadow of the Sinai zeroes in on individuals and helps the reader come into the lives of the individual Israelite and the individual Egyptian, showing how this whole way of life affected the peoplenot only as a whole, but also how it affects individuals. When Im reading the story from the Bible, I often only think of the Israelites as a group or a people, but had never really stopped to think of them as individualswhat all this meant for each woman or child or man. This book gives the reader a chance to ponder on those things.
