The second book in a trilogy. For nine centuries the Emperor Kostimon has sat upon the Ruby Throne. The dark lord Beloth is responsible for his eternal existence. Now Kostimon faces the end of his reign and final death. With the queen Elandra ascension to the throne, treason with the emperor's son and the magical power of Caelan E'non who raises himself from slave to champion gladiator, the remaining days are filled with good battling evil.

The Kingdom of Imperia is threatened by an unspeakable evil--and only Caelan E'non, a champion gladiator, possesses the power and courage to combat it.

I enjoyed this middle book in the trilogy as much as the first book. The continuing story of Caelan the gladiator quest to save the empire.
