There's a new police chief in town, and he arrives in Port Stirling to find a murder on his patch. Matt Horning, from Plano, Texas, is looking for a new start. He hits the ground running with this case, the first murder in Port Stirling's remembered history. This is an interesting police procedural that moves at a nice clip. I had some issues with the solution, but I am willing to read another.

The author does a nice job of creating a moody, foggy aura about the place. Port Stirling is a coastal village in Oregon, on the Pacific Ocean. Because it is January when this story takes place, that foggy atmosphere does much to capture the desolate feeling of a small coastal town.
