very complex,memorable tale. She treads the tightrope between appearence, and reality, memory and history.

Fifth in the series about sociopathic NYC cop Mallory. This one is about the reunion of a group of elderly magicians who first met in Europe during WWII. Fireworks ensue.

Number five of the Kate Mallory series. The magic and the mystery are equally compelling in this title from the intelligent, complex pen of Carol O'Connell.

a magician dies on live TV, an accident?
a magician dies on live TV, an accident?
A man dies during the re-creation of a legendary magic trick. Millions of New Yorkers watching believe it was an accident, but not Kathleen Mallory -- she thinks it's a murderer who will strike again. Good read, great character.
A Kathleen Mallory mystery - very good.
I love Kathy Mallory and her cast of friends. Still my fav's are "Stone Angel"(Mallory's mom) and "Find Me,(?)" the story about Mallory's hunt for her father. Charles Butler is such a fascinating companion for Mallory and his "family," featured in this story, is as interesting as hers.
"On live television, a man dies during the re-creation of a legendary magic trick in Central Park...Kathleen Mallory, a homicide detective, thinks that the death was simply too dramatic, too gruesomely spectacular, to be accidental. And hiding behind the smoke and mirrors is a ruthless killer who will soon strike again."
A++ Excellent intricate plot
