The story is allegorical - though not as "obtuse" as John Bunyan's or C.S. Lewis' works can be, at times - so it is a great way to introduce allegorical writings to your family. It is written at approximately a fifth or sixth grade reading level, but the story line is captivating for any age (four years old and up).
