Engrossing true story of 14 yr. old Manjiro who in the early 1800s was shipwrecked 300 miles from Japan. According to Japanese law his punishment would be death. So when he was rescued by an American whaling boat he decided to go to America where he was adopted by the New England captain who rescued him, gained a wide education and returned to Japan to become a hero with his work with the government and with Commadore Perry.
