Silent Cry takes place in the 1950's, at a school for girls. It is not just a story about one girl, but several. I enjoyed it and enjoyed Julie Veazy's style of writing. As I read, I was transported back in time to the 50's. The group of friends all lived on the same corridor, and shared everything...gossip, food, secrets and most of all friendship.
Nancy is one of the main characters. She is sent to the school by her mother, who is ashamed of her for getting pregnant. Nancy had the baby, it was adopted, then she was shipped off to school. She is quiet and very reserved around the other girls. Eventually Heather is able to draw Nancy out of her shell, and they become best friends.
Jennifer is rich, beautiful, and sarcastic. The other girls don't know what to think when she announces that she has a crush on one of their professors. How far will she take things?
This is a good book with a lot of twists in the story. I highly recommend it.
