Introducing the Airborne Laser, the Air Force's newest weapon system, in the sequel to SILENT LIGHTNING --
Major Lance Brandon is back in the saddle, and this time the stakes are higher than he ever dreamed. The Air Force's newest weapon system, still in development, is needed in battle. It isn't ready. The crew isn't ready. The Air Force isn't ready.
But, the world can't wait. Only the Airborne Laser stands between North Korea's newest nuclear tipped intercontinental ballistic missile, and it's target - the United States of America. Flying into the heart of the battle, Brandon puts his team of laser jocks at the doorstep of suicide.
Up front, Boeing test pilot and Air Force Reserve Colonel Billie Powers has overcome the odds to become one of the first female pilots to fly in battle. By her side, Captain Jake Williams is fighting the system, trying to get out of the Air Force to start his own company. In the jump seat is Lieutenant Colonel 'Skeeter' Aziz, who's put his career as a fighter pilot in ultimate jeopardy just to be in on the action.
The laser jocks are in the back of the plane. Brandon has to nurse his untested weapon, quickly developing new techniques to kill the deadly targets snaking up from the Korean missile fields. His crew, Sergeant Bryan Adams and Captain Jeff Hawkins, work miracles to put the deadly laser beam on its intended targets.
The odds are steeply stacked against these modern warriors. They must contend with the known foe and his fields of missiles, as well as unknown enemies lurking in the American command staff and in the technology they have brought to the fight.
