reviewed The Silver Slave (Harlequin Romance, No 1637) on
I like many of Winspear's books, especially the ones where the heroine travels to exotic places. In this book, the heroine, Rosary, travels to a Portuguese Island to become the piano tutor of the 15 year old daughter of the governor there. As often in her books, the governor is tall, handsome, enigmatic and somewhat of a chauvinist. However, as the book progresses, Rosary begins to intrigue him with her independent attitude and maybe to change his old-fashioned views about women. The book reflects the changes occurring to women and cultural values in the Western world in the 1970's when it was written. The romance was romantic and sexy but never went beyond kisses!
