I have always enjoyed this one by Catherine Anderson, but then again I pretty much always enjoy her books. I thought that the only downfall of the story was that Cassandra was a little too naive to be real. But, I still liked it, because after all it is fiction.

This book is amazing! One minute I was laughing at the hero for getting what he deserves and the next I was ready to smack some sense into himand the heroine. The author seems to have a theme of hardened hero's and down on their luck, naive heroines.

In this one the hero is a rich bored buisnessman(no big suprise!)who falls in lust with the heroine the first time he sees her. He decides he wants her and does so seriously twisted scheming to get her. But his plans don't always go smoothly. Murphy's law definetly takes a bite or two out of him. (not that he doesn't deserve it) But in the end you find your self completely in love with the scoundrel.

If you want to read a book set in the mining days that will run the gamit of emotions, read this one!

I know romance novels are far fetched to begin with, however I could not see Luke and Cassandra as a couple.

Simply put, this is one of the most romantic stories I've ever read. Luke Taggert was one of the best heroes--very human complete with bad side--out there. I didn't want it to end so that I could see Luke live out his happily ever after. Highly recommended at 4.5 stars.

From the back cover

The wealthy owner of a Colorado mining empire, Luke Taggart has seen and done it all. Now, bored with saloons, gambling and loose women, he feels a restless yearning-for what, he doesnt know. Until he meets a woman as fresh and pure as a spring morning-and vows to possess herat any cost.

Compassionate, radiant and breathtakingly lovely, Cassandra Zerek has a charming naivete that seems to blind her to Lukes seductive schemes-and an unwavering belief in the magical ability of love to transform this frog masquerading as a prince into the man of her dreams.

Soon Cassie has aroused not only Lukes desire, but his conscience-most unexpectedly-as well. But neither gold nor guile will make her his own. Only the most precious gift of all can win her: Lukes deep and abiding love.
