Sisters of Shiloh by Kathy and Becky Hepinstall is the story of two sisters who disguise themselves as men to become soldiers in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. One vows revenge; the other vows to protect her sister. The descriptions of the war are vivid and gruesome. However, elements of love also recur through the book, providing an interesting counterpoint to what is ultimately a book about war.
