An old-fashioned book, perhaps, but this author is really enjoyable. From her preface: This is a book for, by and about the American housewife. I admit it as shamelessly as I confess that its title refers to an alien legend. .... so by sixpence I mean a reward. And it is the rewards as well as the challenges and difficulties of creating a home which I discuss here." And she does it with humor.
