A really fun read, especially if you have read the first in this series (this is number two).

Harwin's heroine, Catherine Penny, is a bit different from the main characters in many cozy mysteries. She isn't some sweet little grandma. She has an attitude, is headstrong and opinionated. It's an enjoyable series set in and around Oxford, UK.

The characters are stock, and almost too cliche to be believed, but the detail of village life and a intricate murder make it worthwhile.

As much as I loved the first Far Wychwood mystery, I disliked this one. The main character just went totally bonkers and out of character so many times, it made me tired. Not recommended.

I just finished this after reading the first in the series. I have to admit that the retired librarian, Cathryn Penny, is a bit thorny. Ok, mabey a bit MORE than a bit. But for some reason I like these books. Maybe it's because they're very British in spite of the American protagonist. Also it might be because they're a little off beat for the average cozy. Anyhow, suit yourself. I still like them.
