This is a good suspense title, but not on par with some of the earlier works. I'd still recommend it, but the reader should go in knowing that it won't quite meet the standards of prior titles.

I'm not usually one to throw in occult/supernatural with a mystery, but I am now! Great book, I will be looking for more in the Bishop series.

FBI Agent Riley Crane wakes up covered with blood and with no memory of the last three weeks. This isn't a good scenario for an agent undercover in a small town looking into occult activities. Theres a totally sexy, confident, and successful man in the picture, but she can't even remember him. She has to worry every minute if she is putting her trust in the right place. All the while her normally acute psychic abilities are "shut down" just as much as her memory is.
This one kept me guessing all the way to the end.

This is one of the first Bishop/Special Crimes Unit novels and it was excellent! Kept me guessing till the end. I've read many of Kay Hooper's books and I've loved all of them.

I, for one, love the Bishop/FBI SCU stories, and thought this book was an excellent addition to the series.

Riley Crane wakes up in bed at her rental cottage in Opal Island, only to realize she's covered in dried blood and has no memories of the last three weeks. Apparently, she was on the island to investigate supposed black magic/occult activities while claiming she was on vacation--but she has no recollection of that fact. She also doesn't remember that she's become romantically involved with Ash Prescott, Hazard County District Attorney.

Bishop and the rest of his agents are spread thinly across the United States working on their own investigations, so Riley is on her own, without a partner or any back-up. As situations turn deadly and a body is found tortured and mutilated in a small woods, Riley knows that she must uncover what has been happening to her the last three weeks, and uncover it quickly.

As her mind plays tricks on her, even leading to blackouts where she loses hours of her day (besides the very important memories she's already lost), Riley knows that something evil is happening on Opal Island. It is up to her, and her blind trust in Ash, to figure out what that evil is, and stop it before it ends up killing her.

SLEEPING WITH FEAR is an excellent addition to the SCU series, and I, for one, am glad I picked up a copy of the book. I can't wait to see what Ms. Hooper has in store for Bishop and his team next.

I liked this one better than the last couple, although the ending was kind of abrupt.

Psychic FBI agent Riley Crane wakes up one afternoon covered in blood (not her own), with a pounding headache and no memory of the last three weeksor her clairvoyant sense. In this third fast-paced installation of Hooper's Fear trilogy (after Chill of Fear), Riley is on assignment on Opal Island off the coast of South Carolina, summoned there by her ex-army friend, Gordon Skinner, to investigate possible occult activity. Despite her haziness on the investigation's details to dateincluding her apparent romantic involvement with Sheriff Jake Ballardshe persuades her boss, Noah Bishop, chief of the FBI Special Crimes Unit, to let her stay to "stabilize" the situation, which just got bloodier with another brutal murder. Vulnerable and unable to trust herself or those around her, Riley perseveres in an investigation that could prove deadly. Hooper keeps the suspense dialed up as Riley experiences brief flashes of memory, visions of satanic rites and continued blackouts. Regardless of their appetite for the paranormal, readers will be mesmerized by a plot that moves quickly to a chilling conclusion.

From the cover: Riley Crane woke up fully dressed, a gun under her pillow and covered in blood. Even more frightening, she didn't remember what happened the night beofre. In facr she barely remembered the prevoius three weeks. An ex-Army officer, now a fereal agent assigned to the Speical Crimes Unit. Rliey was a chameleon-a clairvoyant who could blend in with her surrounding, be anyone or anything she choses to be. The SCU's expert on the occult, she'd been sent to the beach-front cottage on Opal Island by her enugmatic cheif, Noah Bishop, to investigate reports of dangerous occult activity. But that was three weeks ago. Now she's awoken to discover she's got a sexy new man in her life and an unreliable memory, and that the clairvoyant abilitis she's always depended on to protect are MIA. Worse yet, the SCU resources stretched thinnner that ever before, Riley is alone and without backup, feeling her way through a deadly game of blindman's bluff, where no one around her is quite who or what they seem. And a bizarre murder is only the first jarring reminder of how high the stakes really are. Bishop wants Riley off the case. So does powerful local D.A. Ash Prescott. Both her old retired army buddy Gordon Skinner and Sheriff Jake Ballard believe she can catch a vicoius killer. But one of these four men knows exactly what's going on in this coastal community, and that's the knowledge Riley desperatly needs. For what Riley can't remember is more than enough to cost her life. This time evil isn't just closer than she thinks-its already there.
