In this 1939 spy thriller, Georgia Cavendish is recruited by her husband's uncle, John Strangeways of Scotland Yard, to infiltrate a secret group called English Banner that is plotting to foment economic and civil unrest. Georgia is brave and resourceful, and is able to make snap judgements of whether people are trustworthy. The leader of the fascist group is cunning and charismatic, and the plot is skillfully unfolded by author Nicholas Blake. Georgia is pursued ruthlessly across Northern England by the fascists, who seem to have a supernatural ability to track her. The story is full of adventure and suspense, and Georgia is a strong and capable heroine.
