I love the Mercy Series. All except this one. It dragged on and on until the end. And the enemies⦠just ridiculous at this point in the series. Hopefully, this was a filler to set up for what I'm used to reading.

One of the problems I have in reading so many series is that I don't tend to remember a lot of details from one to the next, especially if it's a long series and I have to wait a while between books. I didn't remember the plot from the last book, which turns out to be a big factor in some of the events here, but Briggs did a good job weaving in what she needs the reader to know. I could have wished for one less subplot though. There are invading werewolves, Adam's problem, Wulfe, and the smoke monster all at once. And even right after I've read it, how Briggs decided that the smoke monster was really (no spoilers), let's call it X, was kinda unclear to me. What made her pick that particular character? Hmm. I like how Mercy senses the pack bonds, and her mating bond with Adam, and I really like how inclusive she is. I'm curious how the Wulfe thing is going to play out. Last but not least, relating back to how I don't remember a lot of details from each plot - is it just me or does Lugh's walking stick save them a lot? I mean, Mercy figured it out, but without that she'd still be toast right? It's certainly convenient to have that thing handy.
