I smell the smoke, the failing embers dying. Bereft, the fire left nothing. It’s over now. Ashes swirl away into a starless night. No witness to the carnage. Love sacrificed in fires of betrayal. No phoenix to resurrect. Only smoke and uninterrupted death.
