This book was heart wrenching and so excellent at the same time. I'm grateful to not be one of those poor footbound girls, but the idea of a laotong is so wonderful.

This was a bookclub choice, and I'm really looking forward to discussing this story with the other 5 women in my group. What a fantastic story.

Excellent story of Chinese women and their trials. Foot binding section was very difficult to read, plus the women were treated as worthless except for the sons they bore.
