The Profile Components and Attainment Targets are fully integrated into a course for the whole ability range. It provides a comprehensive bank of materials which allows for "different levels of understanding and types of participation". It encourages independent learning and helps students to develop study skills and to take responsibility for planning their own foreign language learning. Throughout the course, students are presented with a range of activities which provide the opportunities to develop the competences and strategies outlined in the Final Report and Consultation Document. Opportunities for the use of Information Technology are highlighted throughout the course. For each there is a students' book with a wide range of activities; a teacher's resource book with practical ideas and a scheme of guidance and materials for National Curriculum assessment; copymasters which provide support and reinforcement material for students experiencing difficulties in dealing with the new language, as well as extension material for those students who are working quickly and successfully; flashcards; an audio cassette pack, containing nine cassettes (one side for each unit) which can be copied within institutions, and a further cassette of material which cannot be made available for copying.
