This book represents the most rare of creatures in early 21st century America, an ORIGINAL fantasy novel! Not warmed over Tolkien, Cabell or Thorne Smith, Bear sets out to invent a new take on some very old ideas, and he does so admirably. If you want something besides the usual and are a bit too literate for the whole paranormal romance thing, check out how a master can breathe new life into themes that were old when they appeared in Weird Tales.
