She thought she was a shockproof cop....she was wrong...
Homicide investigator Rita Trible has seen many hideous crimes -- but none like the eleven-year-old altar boy who was abused, murdered, then embalmed. And worse, he is but the first victim of a serial slayer out to make Milwaukee a killing ground.

An 11-year-old boy's body is found in a park. He has been embalmed, his hands are sewn together over his breast, and his lips have been Super Glued shut. Captain Rita Trible of Wisconsin Criminal Investigation Division is facing personnel problems, possibly leaking information to the media, has a mother suffering from Alzheimers in assisted living, and is trying to raise a young son of her own. She's maybe drinking a bit too much, too. The plot and characterizations are good, but I found the writing style a bit pedestrian.
