What a wonderful way to close out a terrific year in reading. Pat Conroy holds the number 1 spot on my list of favorite authors. Despite very mixed reviews of this, his latest long awaited book, I absolutely loved it. Mark Deakins's narration was terrific and as I listened spellbound, I fell in love with Toad, his circle of friends and once again the city of Charleston. Conroy visits all of his favorite subjects here - friendship, mental illness, adultery, the military, etc., but it's his beautiful prose that I admire. While this is not his finest work, it is a book that I will not part with and will read again in the future.
