reviewed Spanish Slaughter (Wilderness) on
An early American mountain man Nate and his family his hijacked into helping a wealthy Spaniard find a lost legendary gold mine near Long's Peak in present day Colorado. Unfortunately, the Spaniard's method of dealing with the local Ute natives is to wipe out any parties they encounter to prevent them from reporting back to the remainder of the Ute nation. With a strategy like that, the wrath of the Ute nation is bound to catch and annihilate the party, if they don't kill themselves first. Nate and his family must escape before the Ute's find them or the Spaniards decided to kill him.

This book was very enjoyable. Although it is fiction, it incorporates many things that occurred as a way of life in the early frontier. Hunting, tracking, encounters with natives are all depicted very well. I recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about the early years of the American West.
