Sparrow Nights was excellently written and the subject matter made it difficult to put down. It's easy to relate to someone who things a little too highly of himself and descends into madness the moment things go wrong and his life.

Nonetheless, I found it more difficult to read than the average novel. I was not a fan of the writing style - for a book that takes place in the recent past, the language flows more like it was written in the 1920s. Odd that it works so well for books like The Great Gatsby but for me, this one was a turnoff.
