Sparrow is a poet who has been published in The New Yorker, The Quarterly, and The New York Times. He has also produced several books of poetry with a number of poetry organizations, including the St. Mark's Poetry Project. He served as editor for the literary journal Big Fish. Formerly working and living in the Lower East Side of Manhattan, Sparrow is also an activist. He founded the One Size Fits All Movement and the East Village Militia. In 1995, he picketed The New Yorker, carrying a sign that read, "My poetry is as bad as yours." Garnering recognition after the protest, he was published in that magazine as well as others. Sparrow ran for president of the United States in 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008. During his first presidential run, he published the book, "Republican Like Me: A Diary of My Presidential Campaign" from Soft Skull Press. Sparrow is a member of the Unbearables, working with Ron Kolm, Richard Kostelanetz, and Rob Witz. He is also a member of the band Foamola.
