18 very short fables, my 4th grade class performed these as skits for each other, 5 or 6 of them wanted to read nothing else for the rest of the year during silent reading time.

I had students from my 4th grade act some of these out (with mixed success), but several would read no other book the rest of the year, they'd hide behind the bookshelves and read this together. Jon Sciezka would be pleased with the subversion.

It's a set of about 15 very short stories (a la Aesop), with morals. I had my 4th grade class put these on as plays early in the year, and some (girls) couldn't stop reading them all year. Everyone wanted my books as souvenoirs at the end of the year.
