John Jackson Miller has written his fair share of Star Wars books and most are of very high quality. This one is no different. But, it does miss the mark in some areas, at least in my opinion. It follows the story of a Jedi Knight trapped in Sith space during the era of the Old Republic. Having lost her fellow Jedi in a massacre, she strives to do as much damage to the Sith on their own planets as she can get away with before she is defeated. While working on sabotaging a Sith with a god complex's homeworld, she ends up caught up in a plot that leads her to some of the darkest secrets of the Sith Empire.

On the one hand, this book is very entertaining and a very good space opera. Where I felt it missed the mark was in the fact that the Sith are portrayed significantly different than they are in other Star Wars books that cover the same period, some written my Mr. Miller himself. I don't want to give out a bunch of spoilers, as this is a good read. But the secrets of the Sith go off on a tangent that takes anyone that is a fan of this era out of the story somewhat. I realize that the Old Republic era is long and many things could have happened during that period. And this book DOES take place during a period not covered as frequently in other mediums. Nonetheless, I felt that the decadent and inbred Sith shown in this book differ very wildly from the Sith shown in the Knights of the Old Republic era and the degenerate, but mega-powerful Sith shown in the Darth Bane era. Admittedly, events could have happened that led to this, but you can see the progression from Knights of the Old Republic to Darth Bane....And this doesn't fall in the middle very well. Still, if you're a fan of Star Wars or Battlestar Galactica, you can still enjoy this as a good read on it's own merit.
