Because this story and the previous one (see below) are both novellas, the author eventually put them in a boxed set.  There is a gap of about two years between the end of the first story and the start of the second.

Stephen arrives at his brother's farm at the end of the last story. He is wounded and suffering. In the intervening two years, he wants to get land and raise horses like his older brother. However, he wants something of his own. One day, he goes into town for supplies and sees a strange sight. Calliope Bender is on the stagecoach begging someone to marry her. She is dressed in a wedding dress. Intrigued, especially when she stated she has a farm/ranch, Stephen agrees to marry Calliope.

When Calliope keeps treating Stephen like a hired hand, he leaves and returns to his brother's farm. After Rosemarie talks with Stephen, he returns to Calliope to find that her farm is being foreclosed on because her father did not make the last payment before he died.
