Stepping Stones to Literacy (Serial Processing, Lesson Book Lessons 1-25)
Stepping Stones to Literacy - Serial Processing, Lesson Book Lessons 1-25 Stepping Stones to Literacy is an effective, research-based intervention program that is especially compatible with DIBELS(tm). Developed to assist children who could potentially face reading failure, the program has demonstrated increased scores on the DIBELS benchmark measures for Kindergarten (ISF, PSF, LNF, and NWF). Over the course of 25 in... more »tensive lessons, students learn crucial reading fluency skills - listening, conventions, phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and serial processing. Designed to be administered in daily 10-20 minute sessions, this program focuses on small-group or one-on-one instruction.
Students benefit from beginning reading instruction by mastering five pivotal skill sets:
Listening: Focus on identifying and understanding specific sounds and the ways they interconnect
Conventions: Introduce students to letter-naming and the underpinnings of language
Phonological Awareness: Breaks down the largest units of spoken language and explains their structure in simple terms
Phonemic Awareness: Teaches the classification and use of phonemes, the smallest units of spoken language
Serial Processing: Builds the ability of students to process information in a left-to-right format, vital to achieving reading automaticity and fluency
The Lesson Book is designed to allow teachers to work one-on-one with students. It contains 25 complete lessons, plus a section on serial processing. For ease of use, these resources are spiral-bound together in an easel-type book that stands up for viewing and instruction.
