Fine, quietly horrific tale of a man whose unexpected, unwanted psychic abilities suddenly open a doorway into a world of dark secrets and darker truths.

Tom Wallace has a sudden change in his life; one where he finds he can read the minds of others, eventually getting a message from someone deceased that reveals a shocking truth. Just recently having an interest in Matheson's works, I decided to give this book a try - a book that is almost as old as me! It was a good read - I enjoyed it.

An allegory for the internet era, perhaps.

Although I absolutely love the movie, I wasn't impressed by the book. Not quite as spooky, and too many details were so different from the movie that I couldn't get used to it. It might appeal to others, though, especially if you've never seen the movie starring Kevin Bacon!

I saw the movie first and then read the book. Even though I couldn't put the book down, I still liked the movie a bit more.

An excellent and frightening tale, much better than the movie.

An excellent book only loosely based on the movie.
