Stirrings Still / Soubresauts - Comment Dire / What Is the Word
Stirrings Still / Soubresauts - Comment Dire / What Is the Word Author:Samuel Beckett Started in 1986 by Charles Krance with the permission of Samuel Beckett, this series of genetic editions provides Beckett's readers with a complete range of manuscript variants, which allows the reader to reconstruct and study the text's evolution through its various drafts. With the kind permission of the Samuel Beckett Estate, the Series will ... more »now be continued with transcriptions of the manuscripts in electronic format. Consistent with the established goals and criteria of the series, this new aspect of the genetic edition makes it possible to create a searchable environment that fully meets the requirements and aims of the Series, i.e. to show the traces of Beckett's work in the composition of his bilingual oeuvre. The edition consists of two parts: the French and English reading texts are printed face to face, accompanied by a reconstruction of the work's genesis; the transcriptions of the manuscripts on cd-rom are retrievable either in their entirety or piecemeal, from several perspectives. To compare variant readings between different versions, the size of the unit one wishes to compare can be adapted: large (a section); medium (a paragraph); small (a sentence). The textual modifications and differences are encoded in XML (eXtensible Markup Language) and are visualized with a minimum of diacritical signs. The first volume with this electronic research tool presents the genesis of Beckett's last texts: Stirrings Still / Soubresauts and Comment dire / What Is the Word.« less
