A new printing of the old classic. Cowan and her husband were pioneer missionaries in Japan and China in the early 1900s. From their experiences comes this very God-directing devotional.

This is Vol. 1 of a popular daily devotional. Mrs. Cowman worked as a pioneer missionary with her husband in Japan and China from 1901 to 1917. Broken in health, Mr. Cowman was forced to return to the U.S. where Mrs. Cowman nursed him for six years until his death. Out of these experiences and heartbrweak comes the first volume of Streams in the Desert.

In the process of looking for a book to use for daily meditations that would open the door for my prayer time, I found this book. More than any other book I have found to get me started on daily prayer, this has a knack of addressing the issues I most need to hear about and enter into.
With a daily mixture of scripture, quotes, prayer and other comment, it is always interesting, pertinent, and so often goes into the difficult areas of the bible that are not discussed. Far more often than not, I find the words in each daily discussion have the impact of God Himself sitting with me and showing me His ways and desires for my life.
I acquire every copy I can find and hand out to many others that seem to be looking as I was for this help. I am constantly grateful for the amount of the Holy Spirit that fills these pages and how the point the way for me on a daily and weekly basis.
It is not saccharine but meaty in its contents and approaches while being deep and sweet. Read it for a month each day and few will not always have it in the library and near to them when you want to spend time in prayer.
