I found this to be a really interesting book. It covers a wide range of topics. This book has corporate corruption, seismology, Christian fundamentalism, the debate over abortion, and a love story. It was a very enjoyable book, but it's not as good as The Corrections.

I liked "The Corrections" and "Freedom" so I thought I'd read an earlier work of Franzen's. Immediately, I remembered his verbose style and fell right into this complicated story about a troubled young man living in Boston who falls in love with a brilliant, but also troubled, scientist. In this version of Boston, there are earthquakes and the reasons behind them unfold, as do other controversial topics such as abortion, religion, and the environment. Because of this, I see a connection in all of Franzen's works. Not to mention, his favoring of troubled and often ruthless people. This guy can write a good story!
