Norma Joyce is young, dark and homely but tough as prairie grass; Lucinda is fair and dutiful, and stands between Norma and the bitter anger of their father. In the drought-ravaged prairies of 1930s Saskatchewan, two sisters fall in love with the same man in a saga of unrequited love.

Beautifully written, i loved the story, at first it took me a chapter to get into it, but then it took off and i did not want to put it down. The story spans 30 years, the rivalry between two sisters and of a stranger who changes both their lives. It starts in the Prairie Dust Bowl in the 30's and later in the years following the war, and then toNew York. Written very well and i did enjoy this author, she was new to me.

I didn't find any of the characters likeable, but I still really enjoyed this book. Extremely well written.
