Marcia C. reviewed Subtle Acts of Exclusion: How to Understand, Identify, and Stop Microaggressions on + 700 more book reviews
This book about microaggressions is best read in a group, where you have the opportunity to discuss the examples, some of which may initially seem far-fetched or over-sensitive even though they illustrate well the themes of the book and come from those who felt the incidents harmed them.
The authors primarily consider examples within corporations rather than in community groups or out in public, and they use some jargon that I found mystifying or off-putting, such as "cisplain" and "otherizing."
Mostly, however, the authors are careful to define exactly what they are talking about in each chapter. It's a good and useful book for raising consciousness.
