This is book number 4 in the Starfleet Corps of Engineers series, featuring the starship da Vinci captained by David Gold and loaded with the best engineers Starfleet has to offer.

And, as usual, there are plenty of problems that need the attention of the da Vinci's crew, like an orbital prison spinning out of control and threatening to crash into the inhabited planet below.

Later they face the return of the Landru computer, this time it has taken over a Ferengi city-ship. Then they get to deal with a xenophobic race that has just discovered alien technology embedded in their planet from a time well before they were sentient and later the always hard luck Sherman's planet has a plague which appears to be 100% fatal.

The life of an engineer is always interesting and so are the books about them.
